Portrait of the young artist Stuart Sutcliffe

Original founding member of the Beatles

Stuart Sutcliffe

Stuart Sutcliffe — often called the "fifth Beatle" and John Lennon's closest friend — is credited with naming the band and helping shape the group's early look. He chose to leave music to commit fully to painting, studying under Eduardo Paolozzi and developing a raw, abstract-expressionist voice before his death in 1962 at just 21.

The estate keeps that work in circulation through museum-quality prints, so a new audience can meet the painter behind the legend.
